Liposuction swelling timeline
Swelling is common after liposuction procedure regardless of type. This swelling may last the first 1 month or so. The swelling is usually a major one, meaning that you will be in a compression garment. The following is the progression in the swelling till recovery.
First 4 days
This is common in all types of surgeries when swelling is most pronounced. It is known as the inflammatory phase. If you survive these first 4 days, you are good to go as you enter the next phase of the recovery. It paves way for what is known as the proliferative phase.

7-10 days
During this period, fluids in the third space get absorbed into the body so that you the swelling reduces considerably. One may also have a minor swelling which, though noticeable, is only on a small scale.
First 21 days
This is a crucial time as you begin your journey to recovery. The swelling is at its highest, meaning that you wear the compression garment 24/7 for the 24 hours in a day. You will only remove it when changing or bathing.
Next 21 days
The swelling has subsided to a certain extent. You are allowed to remove the compression garment for half the time as you progress in the recovery process.
